CONTEXT OF JOB:
The University of Delaware, College of Health Sciences academic health center, UD Health, offers comprehensive, interdisciplinary care to the community within the context of cutting-edge research and education. The UD Nurse Managed Primary Care Center offers primary care, chronic disease management, prevention and wellness services. The Nurse Practitioner will provide care to diverse clientele within and outside of the university community. The family nurse practitioner will collaborate with mental health, nutrition, exercise counseling, and other clinical partners on the team.
The Nurse Practitioner will also provide clinical support for research studies and serve as a clinical preceptor for graduate and undergraduate students, both in the clinic setting and also for overseeing and teaching University of Delaware clinical and non-clinical graduate and undergraduate students.
Position is full time. Typical business hours with the possibility of 11-7 on Wednesdays, or 7-3 on Tuesdays or Thursdays under the direction of the NMPCC Director.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide a full range of primary health care service to patients, including but not limited to ordering laboratory studies, imaging, medications and medical management of acute and chronic diseases.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, NPs and other clinical providers while working in a model of interdisciplinary healthcare delivery.
- Follow current evidence-based practice guidelines for patient care and treatment.
- Foster and maintain long-term patient relationships.
- Serve as a clinical preceptor for undergraduate and graduate nursing students.
- Provide clinical support for research, including but not limited to physical examinations, laboratory testing, ECG with interpretation and possibly monitor subjects during stress testing.
- Participate in the Nurse Managed Primary Care Clinics Parkinson Disease Clinic by treating patients in our telehealth clinic and performing evaluations/exams specific to Parkinson’s patients.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in nursing with a family nurse practitioner concentration and three years of current full-time practice experience in primary care.
- Current certification as a family nurse practitioner.
- Eligibility for licensure in Delaware as Advanced Practice Nurse (APN).
- Eligibility for prescriptive privileges and controlled substances licensure in Delaware Current DEA licensure.
- Competency in all aspects of Primary Care and Family Practice; to include but not limited to chronic disease management, acute illness/injury management, women’s health and pediatrics.
- Knowledgeable in use of electronic medical records.
- Knowledgeable about ICD-10 & CPT coding and billing.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in precepting nursing students highly desirable.
- Phlebotomy experience highly desirable.
- Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching. Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs.
- Continuous need for clear speaking and diction.
- Hearing sensitivity and visual acuity.
- Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and hazardous cleaning chemicals.
- Availability to take professional calls during off hours as needed.
- Availability to work evening hours as needed for clinic coverage.
