CONTEXT OF JOB:
The UDairy Creamery Enterprise is an entity of the University of Delaware’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. It is currently comprised of two brick and mortar retail locations, a mobile ice cream truck, and a dairy production facility. It uses milk sourced from the college dairy unit and is also an outlet for other college products including honey, beef, wool and more.
Under general supervision of the Retail Operations Assistant Director, the Flagship Location Manager oversees all functions associated with the UDairy Creamery Flagship location. The flagship location manager is responsible for the oversight of both the operational and administrative functions of the UDairy Creamery Flagship and Moo Mobile to include the production, marketing, sale and distribution of ice cream and other products at the UDairy Creamery Flagship facility, the Moo Mobile, and UD campus and local events. The Flagship Manager is also responsible for assisting with the management and execution of catering events involving the UDairy Creamery Flagship.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational
- Manages the operational, administrative, and fiscal affairs of the UDairy Creamery Flagship and Moo Mobile
- Coordinates staffing, set up, supervision, and billing of UDairy Creamery ice cream catering events and Moo Mobile ice cream truck. Responsible for driving the Moo Mobile ice cream truck.
Marketing and Sales
- Manages the ordering, sale and distribution of ice cream, cheese and other products at the UDairy Creamery Flagship
- Manages production and distribution of food and other products including ice cream, cheese, prepared foods, and CANR Ag products.
- Supports menu development and marketing of the UDairy Creamery Flagship and Production facility and their products.
- Manages business relations of the UDairy Creamery to CANR departments and units, the Office of the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, UD's Office of Communication and Public Affairs, UD's Dining Services, UD Athletics, Newark community, as well as the public media, faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students.
- Communicates functions, services, and goals of the Creamery Flagship and Moo Mobile operations to internal and external stakeholders.
Staffing and Personnel Management
- Participates in the staffing coordination of the flagship to include scheduling and training for student supervisors, student employees, and miscellaneous wage employees.
- Manages timesheets and payroll related inquiries in partnership with Creamery HR Liaison. Makes recommendations to Creamery leadership on personnel actions.
- Assists in developing, recommending, and implementing employee training programs and business action plans.
Financial
- Assists leadership with recording and management of the Creamery flagship and Moo Mobile accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, payroll, and event financials.
Other
- Responsible for complying with university policies, procedures, and best practices regarding protecting data and following UD data governance rules
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience or academic background in small business management of a food service operation.
- Experience or academic background in food science and/or dairy science preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft computer programs and computerized information systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in facilitating events.
- Knowledge of cost analysis techniques and budget preparation preferred.
- Ability to develop financial plans, manage resources and analyze budgetary expenditures preferred.
- Previous supervisory and/or employee training experience preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of customer service standards and procedures preferred.
- Skills in establishing, directing and enforcing policies and regulations preferred.
- Ability to develop, plan and implement short- and long-range goals preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- ServeSafe Certified or must be able to achieve certification within 30 days of start date.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Evening and weekends required for special events.
- Must maintain a valid license in order to drive department vehicles.
- With or without assistance, must be able to move or lift up to 50 pounds.
