The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (https://www.chem.udel.edu/), in the College of Arts and Sciences, invites applications for two open temporary assistant professor positions in Chemistry and Biochemistry, starting August 16, 2023. These positions offer a strong, supportive setting for a teaching-intensive role in the environment of an active research department with robust undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful candidate will have expertise in teaching introductory chemistry classes to chemistry and biochemistry majors and non-majors, including core concepts in introductory chemistry. In addition, the ability to teach undergraduate courses focused in analytical and/or inorganic chemistry is preferable. We seek to enhance both the breadth of chemistry education in our department and the diversity of our faculty. The College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Biological Sciences, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Delaware (UD) invite applications for an assistant professor, continuing track faculty position to lead the College’s secondary science education program, which includes degree programs in all three participating Departments. We seek candidates with a doctorate in science education in any of the three subject areas (biology, chemistry, physics) with at least three years of experience teaching science at the secondary level (grades 7-12) strongly preferred. The successful candidate will have a full-time, continuing faculty appointment in the Department most closely aligned with the candidate’s expertise. The Department of Physics and Astronomy (web.physics.udel.edu) in the College of Arts and Sciences seeks applications for two temporary faculty starting August 16, 2023. These are full time faculty positions with a competitive compensation and benefits package, on a one-year contract, renewable annually for up to three years.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at UD is a research-active department with vigorous undergraduate and graduate physics programs that also values high quality instruction. The successful candidates will join a group of faculty (both tenure and continuing track) focused on teaching introductory physics using PER-informed (Physics Education Research) pedagogies. Professional development of instructional faculty is strongly encouraged and supported by the department.
A M.S, Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Physics, Astronomy, Physics Education, or a related field, experience teaching physics at the college level as the instructor of record, and a strong commitment to teaching and serving a diverse population are required. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in teaching introductory physics classes to STEM majors across disciplines, including Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, and/or Engineering. Experience with evidence-based application of learning theory, as well as an interest in utilizing classroom technologies will be viewed favorably. Demonstrated experience managing courses with multiple sections, teaching assistants, and/or laboratory sections will also be considered favorably. Responsibilities associated with this position will be teaching introductory level lecture courses (primarily in-person) and the coordination of associated discussion sections.

All areas of modern ab initio and many-body methods applied to realistic materials or molecular systems will be given thorough consideration including: density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT; many-body perturbation theory and coupled-cluster methods; GW-Bethe-Salpeter equation; dynamical mean-field theory; quantum Monte Carlo; tensor networks, matrix product states and density matrix renormalization group; and methods for nonequilibrium electronic structure. Candidates with experience in developing new algorithms that can efficiently utilize local and remote high performance computing resources are invited to apply. Candidates with experience in developing new methods and algorithms to describe spectral transitions from first principles as well as those developing large-scale computational approaches are invited to apply. Research areas include: development of algorithms to describe processes such as excitations of atomic and molecular clusters, attosecond and ultrafast nuclear dynamics in molecules, time-resolved and two-dimensional multiphoton pump-probe interrogation of matter, high-precision tests of laws of physics. Candidates are expected to have experience in interacting with experiments in the field, in particular in providing theoretical predictions critical for interpreting experiments.
