Temporary Assistant Professor, Linguistics & Cognitive Science, College of Arts and Sciences                                                                   

The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of Delaware invites applications for two Temporary Assistant Professor positions in the Department of Linguistics & Cognitive Science. The appointment is expected to begin on August 16, 2025, and will run until August 31, 2026, with the possibility of renewal for up to a maximum of three years.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Cognitive Science and/or Linguistics, with some possibilities for graduate level teaching and mentoring. Some service may also be required. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or a related field. They will also demonstrate teaching excellence and a strong commitment to teaching and advising. The candidate is expected to teach a minimum of three courses per semester from the following list: Introduction to Cognitive Science; Introduction to Linguistics; Language, Mind, Society; Science of Language; Topics in Cognitive Science; Psycholinguistics; Neurolinguistics; Structure of English; Second Language Acquisition & Bilingualism. Teaching breadth is desired, although the candidate is not expected to have expertise in all of these areas.

THE DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS AND COGNITIVE SCIENCE AT UD: The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of Delaware (https://www.lingcogsci.udel.edu) is within the College of Arts and Sciences. The department runs a Ph.D. program in Linguistics, a Master’s degree in Linguistics and Cognitive Science, a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics. Our largest undergraduate population is in the Cognitive Science major, which houses a concentration in Speech Language Pathology. The department is committed to a climate of mutual respect among all individuals.
