CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Innovation Space is a not-for-profit innovation ecosystem and virtual and physical home for leading science entrepreneurs. The Innovation Space works to “transform science and technology startups into industry-leading companies.” Located on the historic Experimental Station campus in Wilmington, Delaware, The Innovation Space is comprised of 130,000 ft2 of state-of-the-art lab and office space with access to cutting-edge equipment alongside a suite of entrepreneurship programs and opportunities supporting startup growth.

The Data Management Specialist will be seconded from the University of Delaware to the Innovation Space and be a part of the team at the organization. The Data Management Specialist will receive direction from the Director–Learning Experience & Impact Measurement and overall strategic guidance from the CEO/President of the Innovation Space as well as administratively from the Research, Scholarship & Innovation office for UD-specific matters.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the Innovation Space’s data systems, timeline, and plans for implementation according to Innovation Space mission and organizational deliverables.
  • Lead data collection across stakeholder groups and maintain centralized databases including qualitative startup updates, testimonials, and success stories as well as quantitative impact and operations data.
  • Support collection, organization, and report generation for research site operations and governance and operations of the organization.
  • Manage reporting for local, state, and national grants along with those for strategic partners.
  • Support writing and submission of new grant applications.
  • Maintain legal & business-critical document management and retention.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to support data usage in marketing funnel materials such as landing pages, lead-gated content, and impact reports.
  • Track, measure, and analyze marketing initiatives and recommend optimizations to the marketing team.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders in response to data requests.
  • Identify software needs and manage tech platforms supporting data and operations initiatives.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the CEO/President of The Innovation Space.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, at least 3 years of work experience in statistics, business analytics, mathematics, or research methods, with a focus on managing data projects.
  • An enthusiasm for innovation and interest in the world of science startups.
  • Experience or interest in data systems and database management.
  • Experience or interest in grant writing and reporting.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and communication skills. Basic visual communication and design experience a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills with particular attention to detail. 
  • The ability to operationalize and execute plans with limited guidance.
  • Ability to work independently or within a team, anticipate issues and needs, and proactively seek resolutions while being resourceful. 
  • Ability to make decisions and exercise discretion, confidentiality, and judgment in keeping with the level of the position.
  • May require occasional evening and/or weekend hours. 
  • Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
