POSITION: The Department of Applied Economics and Statistics at University of Delaware (UD) invites applications for a temporary full time Assistant Professor in Statistics to begin Spring 2023. The position will be a 12-month, full-year appointment with approximately 90% of time devoted to teaching and 10% of time devoted to service. The new hire will primarily contribute to our MS Applied Statistics online program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching: This position will be responsible for teaching 8 courses per year on topics such as biostatistics, applied multivariate statistics, time series analysis, among other possible topics according to the interests of the candidate and the needs of the department. Teaching would primarily support the online MS Applied Statistics. Responsibilities also include advising MS Applied Statistics students on course selection and progress through the program.

Service: The successful candidate will serve on the MS Applied Statistics coordination committee helping to plan, organize, and oversee the curriculum of the program in concert with the director and other program faculty. All members of the Department of Applied Economics and Statistics contribute to Department/University/Professional service activities and to the departmental mission of statistical literacy on campus.

REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in Statistics or a related field with experience applying statistics to research or other applications. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of excellence in teaching, especially at graduate levels.  Individuals with significant work experience applying statistical analysis are preferred. We seek individuals that will incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion into their teaching and mentoring and can demonstrate plans and experience creating a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The Department of Applied Economics and Statistics is an interdisciplinary academic unit within the University of Delaware’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Currently, the Department consists of 17 full-time faculty who teach and supervise approximately 100 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate students. The Department includes the Statistical Laboratory, which services clients both on and off campus and the Center for Experimental & Applied Economics, an experimental economics laboratory. The University of Delaware is located in scenic Newark, Delaware, within 2 hours of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. The University is a Land Grant, Sea Grant, Space Grant, and Carnegie Research University, with external funding exceeding $250 million.
