ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS, CONTINUING TRACK, COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Description: We seek a dynamic thinker and critical maker who demonstrates a depth of knowledge in design fundamentals, typography, technology and creative practice and promotes inclusivity and equity in their teaching and institutional engagement. Ideal candidates will recognize the influence of design on culture and society both on- and off-screen as evidenced by their creative research and will actively support their students as agents of change. The successful candidate will teach in all levels of the Visual Communications BFA program and contribute to curriculum development across all undergraduate courses in the Department of Art and Design. We encourage applications from candidates from historically underrepresented groups because we acknowledge the systemic racism and sexism that for too long has defined both higher education and the field of design.

Qualifications: Applicants must have an MFA or equivalent terminal degree in a design-related discipline and experience teaching in graphic or interaction design at the college level. Previous professional experience in a design-related field is highly desirable, but not required.

We cultivate an inclusive atmosphere of diversity, discovery, experimentation, problem-solving, and creative thinking. The Department’s approach is learner-centered with the aim of educating socially and culturally engaged artists and designers who comprehend and challenge definitions and assumptions through a wide spectrum of artistic production.
