Context of the Job:
Under general direction of the Associate Director of Environmental Health and Safety, the Data Analyst exercises independent judgment in performing a variety of tasks necessary to track, analyze and report on data and trends associated with departmental programs. The work of the Data Analyst significantly influences the day-to-day and long-term operations of EHS. The incumbent collects data from various sources, analyzes, interprets, and prepares reports in Excel, Word, and other programs as necessary. This individual shall be committed to transforming data into readable, goal-oriented reports that drive innovation and growth.
- Work directly with department leadership and EHS Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand and maintain focus on their analytics needs, including critical metrics and key performance indicators, and deliver actionable insights to relevant decision-makers.
- Develop data tracking tools, provide status updates, and formulate reports.
- Mine and compile qualitative and quantitative analyses of program data to be used in annual impact reports, reports to leadership, and other reports.
- Create and maintain rich interactive visualizations through data interpretation and analysis, with reporting components from multiple data sources.
- Evaluate internal systems for efficiency, problems, and inaccuracies, and develop and maintain protocols for handling, processing, and cleaning data.
- Prepare clear and concise reports summarizing findings, trends, and recommendations for university administrators, safety committees, and other stakeholders.
- Create visualizations and dashboards to present safety data in an understandable and actionable format for university leadership and safety personnel.
- Work with cross-functional teams to design and implement safety initiatives, awareness campaigns, and educational programs.
- Perform other job-related duties.
- Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience performing analyses, programming/designing databases, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently and independently in a time-sensitive, thorough, detail-oriented, and well-organized manner.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques
- Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, and other data visualization tools for safety data analysis.
- Proficiency in SQL and programming languages such as Python for database development and full-stack development preferred.
- Must have strong Microsoft Office skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio (e.g., create pivot tables, formulas, charts, graphs, and analytics).
- Proficiency in survey software (e.g., Qualtrics, Survey Monkey) preferred.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
