Context of job:
The Mende-Siedlecki Lab is housed in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware. The lab is headed by Dr. Peter Mende-Siedlecki, Principal Investigator (PI). Research in Dr. Mende-Siedlecki’s lab focuses on the dynamic neural and psychological mechanisms supporting social perception and social cognition. Our primary lines of work focus on a) how top-down factors like group membership shape the way we see and evaluate other people, and b) how we learn about and update impressions of other people over time. The lab employs a variety of methodological approaches towards studying these topics, including behavioral, neuroimaging, psychophysical, and computational modeling techniques. 

The Research Associate I position is funded via internal money awarded to the PI. The position is temporary and may be renewed on a 12-month basis, dependent upon available funding and performance. The job will be ideal for motivated individuals interested in applying to graduate school in psychology or neuroscience in the future, as it will offer the opportunity to manage independent research projects that may result in future publications. Ultimately, a 2-year commitment is strongly preferred. 

Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate I will oversee the day-to-day activities of the lab (e.g., scheduling, managing finances, training volunteer RAs, maintaining the website), as well as assisting with various research-related duties (e.g., participant screening and recruitment, task and stimulus design data collection and processing, data analysis).
 
Major responsibilities:
 
• Uses training and independent judgment to plan, schedule, and carry out day-to-day lab activities, procedures, and research studies, ensuring efficient workflow and adequate care and treatment of research participants. This includes assisting with task and stimulus preparation, data processing and analysis, manuscript editing, and scheduling lab meetings. 
• Contributing to the development and implementation of protocols, procedures, and techniques relating to all aspects of the research, including Institutional Review Board applications. 
• Coordinates participant screening and recruitment; explains all procedures to participants in accordance with pre-established protocols and obtains their written consent to participate. 
• Works with PI to establish appropriate data collection procedures and coordinates the collection of behavioral, neuroimaging, and psychophysiological data. 
• Keeps all lab data properly recorded, organized and stored for easy retrieval by researcher, and ensures data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance. 
• Manages compliance with human subject protocols. 
• Oversees the fiscal management of the lab by managing all payments to study participants, monitoring supply inventories, and assisting with the managing of grants. 
• Assists with interviewing, training, and supervision of undergraduate research assistants; delegates work according to the individuals' skills, knowledge, and abilities. 
• Maintains the lab website. 
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
 
• Bachelor's degree in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, computer science or related field, with at least one year related experience working or volunteering in a psychology or neuroscience lab, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience. 
• Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. 
• Dependable, reliable, and able to consistently adhere to a schedule. 
• Ability to work independently and make decisions without direct input from a supervisor 
• Ability to make people feel comfortable in the lab setting using a professional, mature, and friendly demeanor. 
• Effective written and oral communication, human relations, and listening skills. 
• Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol. 
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and supervise multiple undergraduate students, including making a lab schedule, delegating tasks, and coordinating responsibilities. 
• Experience with the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to make tables and organize complex datasets. 
• Undergraduate coursework in statistical analysis and some experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R), preferred. 
• Experience in programming (e.g., in MATLAB, Python, Javascript, etc.), as well as experience with fMRI data collection and analysis (e.g., AFNI, FSL, SPM, etc.), preferred.
