Under the general direction of the Director of Communications and Marketing for the Graduate College, the Digital Communications Specialist develops and implements a comprehensive digital communications program in support of the mission of the University of Delaware’s Graduate College. The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the college’s content management system and web presence, and the creation of digital assets, including but not limited to digital display content, social media, e-newsletters, infographics, websites and web versions of printed materials, to increase the awareness and reputation of the impact of a UD graduate education. The Digital Communications Specialist works with faculty, staff and university and community partners to develop creative and innovative content for a variety of communications platforms; repurpose content from a variety of internal and external sources for multi-platform distribution; and monitor digital traffic to ensure online content is reaching target audiences.  



  • In collaboration with the Director of Communications and Marketing for the Graduate College, develop, coordinate and implement all electronic outreach efforts, including the Graduate College website, social media channels, e-newsletters, digital campaigns and digital versions of printed materials.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement the overall concepts and content of digital communications, working closely with the communications team and campus partners to integrate digital assets into strategic communications activities.
  • Produce compelling digital content in style appropriate to intended audience, leveraging opportunities to share content across platforms at the college, department and university level.
  • Research, design, and support comprehensive online multimedia, websites, and interactive displays, to include feature writing, interviewing faculty and staff, and capturing/editing still images and digital video and audio clips.
  • Manage the Graduate College website, including but not limited to web-based applications, website enhancements, database-backed websites and web layout enhancements. Designs, codes, and tests technical solutions.
  • Implement a robust, effective social media presence for the college, also leveraging opportunities to boost college presence on university-level social media channels. Think strategically and apply market techniques to increase visibility, boost traffic, engage with constituents and measure the impact of efforts. Track and report analytics, demonstrating the effectiveness of digital campaigns.
  • Provide guidance on developing digital communication strategies and assets to market important events, activities, and initiatives. Implement and maintain a master content calendar for all digital properties.
  • Ensure that all digital communications efforts and products meet established standards for appearance, content, style and accessibility. Develop and implement SEO and best practices for web and social media, adhering to guidelines for content and metadata. Educate key constituents to maintain sites according to these principles.
  • Perform quality assurance for implementation of new digital projects and changes to existing digital assets. Organize, evaluate and report analytics summaries with recommendations and action items to continuously improve cross-platform content strategies for digital assets across the college.
  • Manage multiple projects and stakeholder requests simultaneously.
  • Serve as primary liaison with digital experts in other colleges and university-level teams. Collaborate with staff on the technical aspects of development and maintenance of college websites.
  • Adhere to University Brand Guides as well as policies and procedures governing IT/web efforts.

  • Bachelor’s degree with three years of job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or digital communications experience.  Degree in interactive media, visual arts, communications, marketing, education technology or journalism preferred.
  • Writing and editing experience as well as effective web authoring skills and familiarity with a wide range of web applications.
  • Well-versed in utilizing content management systems (preferably Adobe Experience Manager and WordPress) and social media management tools (preferably Hootsuite Enterprise).
  • Fluency with web editing tools, social media platforms, digital asset management software, email marketing tools (e.g. Slate, Mail Chimp), HTML, MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of web design, including responsive design, web accessibility, SEO and optimization. Attention to detail and knowledge of best practices for digital design.
  • Writing and editing experience as well as effective web authoring skills and the ability to evaluate and edit the content, structure and format of a range of written and visual materials.
  • Experience writing for the web, adapting appropriate tones for different audiences. Experience developing and executing digital content strategies to align with audience behaviors, goals and key messages to drive engagement.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously and still meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Google optimization, Google Apps, Google Business and SEO best practices.
  • Familiarity with web standards, accessibility, usability, document management and the technical aspects of web servers and the types of applications and sites that run on them.
  • Experience working in higher education or research organization a plus.
  • Effective written, verbal, visual design, interpersonal, organizational, and public speaking skills, and attention to detail.
