Assistant or Associate Professor (Continuing Track), Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, University of Delaware

The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware invites applications for three open positions as Assistant or Associate Professors (Continuing Track) at the new Institute for Community Mental Health, to begin August 16, 2025. The faculty members’ primary roles will be a rich mix of activities including, providing clinical supervision and training to students in our innovative new master’s degree program in clinical science, teaching core curriculum in that program, as well as in our Ph.D. program, and supervising clinical research projects for M.S. students. In addition, if interest and experiences are relevant, there is an opportunity for one candidate to be appointed Director of our quickly expanding community-serving Institute for Community Mental Health-Clinic. We especially welcome applicants who value increasing access to evidence-based treatments for the diverse populations served at our clinic, including those who are bi-lingual.

At the new Institute for Community Mental Health (ICMH), we are transforming the mental and behavioral health landscape through the development, implementation, and dissemination of evidence-based mental health practices. Our mission is to generate new knowledge relevant to the provision of mental health care, to foster impactful connections between clinical psychological science and the community, and to increase access to science-based care for our communities.

ICMH stands as a beacon of innovation and collaboration, bridging the gap between research and real-world application of the best science our field has to offer.

ICMH includes three entities aimed at impacting the mental health needs of individuals and society ensures that we deliver high-quality care, engage in cutting-edge clinical research, and train the next generation of clinical scientists and practitioners:

1. Center for Training, Evaluation & Community Collaboration (C-TECC)

The C-TECC works closely with community stakeholders to apply scientific solutions to pressing mental health challenges in mental health systems of care. Through a combination of research, training, and evaluation, C-TECC helps to elevate the quality of mental health services in the community. Our focus areas include:

- Training community providers in evidence-based practices.

- Evaluating and improving community mental health services.

- Conducting research that informs new and more effective interventions.

 

2. ICMH-Clinic (ICMH-C)

The ICMH-C provides high-quality, evidence-based mental health care to the community through expertly trained licensed clinicians, university faculty, and graduate student trainees. The ICMH-C:

-Provides the community evidence-based psychotherapy and diagnostic assessments for all age groups.

-Trains graduate students and professionals in evidence-based mental/behavioral health services.

-Facilitates interdisciplinary research and integrated care with other STAR Tower clinics.

 

3. Master’s Program in Clinical Psychological Science

Our Master’s Program in Clinical Psychological Science prepares students to think like scientists while training as clinicians. Our program emphasizes the integration of clinical science with community practice. Through this innovative program, we aim to:

- Provide state of the science clinical and research training focused on the interdependence of laboratory work in our field and clinical applications.

-Develop a well-trained workforce to meet the pressing needs of society for psychological services

- Train clinicians from underrepresented backgrounds, including bilingual professionals to serve those populations that often do not have access to care.

- Build capacity for impactful clinical research that addresses real-world problems.

ICMH also collaborates with other University of Delaware clinics and centers, including the other Health Clinics, as well as the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, and the Center for Counseling and Student Development.

 

The Continuing Track (CT) is UD’s full-time, continuing faculty line, similar to the tenure track. CT faculty enjoy contracts that increase in length over time and, like tenure-track faculty, receive full and generous benefits, including family-friendly benefits, as part of their compensation package. CT faculty with terminal degrees hold professorial rank and have a path to promotion up to full professor; CT faculty without terminal degrees are at the instructor rank and have a parallel path to promotion. QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   We are seeking exceptional candidates in clinical psychology. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. from a PCSAS or APA accredited clinical psychology program. In addition, applicants must have a breadth of experience in psychological services, and a demonstrated commitment to clinical science and training in evidence-based practices. The candidate must also demonstrate a commitment to expanding access and quality of services to underserved and diverse populations.

Preference will be given to applicants who are licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist in the State of Delaware, and who have demonstrated experience in training and supervising students in evidence-based practice, supervision of clinical-focused research projects, administration of clinic procedures (if interested in the ICMH-Clinic Director position), and collaboration with other health practitioners within an integrated care context.

Responsibilities will include duties in training and supervising clinical services, clinical research and evaluation, and clinic administration. The faculty members will train students to provide high-quality evidence-based treatments and evaluations at the ICMH-Clinic.

 

PSYCHOLOGICAL AND BRAIN SCIENCES AT UD:  The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware is within the College Arts and Sciences. The department is home to roughly 1200 undergraduate majors and 400 minors and offers degrees in both Psychology and Neuroscience. The department is organized around four concentrations of research and graduate training that is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary. Our graduate students and full-time faculty conduct basic and applied research in behavioral neuroscience, clinical science, cognitive psychology and social psychology. We promote the principles of equity and inclusion within our department and beyond through recruitment and retention, graduate training, clinical work, research, service and teaching, as well as through open and productive dialogue.

These positions will complement the Clinical Science Program’s existing strengths around psychopathology and intervention science. Accordingly, this position will involve facilitating clinical research for M.S. students and applying findings in service provision and/or training students. The Department is also an innovative hub for psychological science and includes active researchers studying a range of psychological phenomena relevant to clinical science. This research includes studies of the basic neural mechanisms of behavior at our state-of-the-science fMRI center, genetic and epigenetic mechanisms, and social/physiological processes relevant to well-being. Therefore, the position will be housed within an exciting, innovative, and collaborative Department that will facilitate the successful candidate’s work.
