CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
The University of Delaware invites applications for the position of Director of Academic Enrichment. The Office of Academic Enrichment (OAE), a unit within the Center for Academic Success which is housed in the Provost’s Office, offers a variety of services and activities in collaboration with the efforts of other University offices to ensure a comprehensive set of academic support services for UD students. Under the limited direction of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, the Director of the OAE is responsible for developing, coordinating and evaluating efforts within the OAE that focus on helping ensure all students at the University of Delaware are provided the resources to help optimize their academic success. The Director is also expected to work closely with and maintain regular contact with academic and non-academic units that support student success at the University of Delaware

- Supervise assigned staff including Academic Success Coaches, Tutoring Academic Program Manager and Administrative Assistant III.
- Oversee the comprehensive operation of the University SkilMod courses (about 30 sections annually), and workshops including, coordinating, assigning and evaluating the instructors of the SkilMod courses, skill building workshops and other related activities.
- Provide oversight to ensure the appropriate access to tutoring services for University of Delaware students with specific emphasis placed on Pell eligible, low income and first-generation students.
- Help coordinate and ensure the appropriate design, implementation and evaluation of the summer “Get Ready” Program.
- Coordinate Blue and Gold, Decision and Discovery Days and other recruitment events for the OAE.
- Work closely with the First Year Seminar (FYS) office and others in developing support programs related to the FYS.
- Collaborate with all appropriate units across campus to help improve retention and graduation of all enrolled students.
- Maintain regular contact with all academic units, Student Life and other university programs to ensure that UD students are aware of the support offered by the OAE.
- Coordinate and assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of a variety of programs and workshops for students, parents, faculty and administrators focusing on student academic success. Including, for example, a “Student Success” Conference for UD faculty, administrators and staff.
- Manage student crises and resolve complex problems related to the transition to college and the retention of undergraduate students, in particular, for incoming freshmen, and selected students experiencing academic and other related difficulties.
- Design and conduct program evaluations for areas of responsibility and develop new systems of assessing services.
- Assist in the development of the unit budget; evaluate the impact of ongoing and new initiatives on current and future budgets; manage program resources.
- Participate in the development of new collaborative activities and coordinate existing cooperative efforts with the colleges and with other University support units to promote student retention and graduation.
- Provide high-touch, individualized support to a student caseload including assessing individual student needs, developing an action plan and making appropriate referrals.
- Monitor students’ academic progress, update student records and maintain summary reports.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Master's degree (Ph.D./Ed.D. preferred) in student personnel, counseling or related discipline and six years of academic support/advisement experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organization and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to make independent decisions.
- Experience managing budgets.
- Experience in strategic planning, knowledge and understanding of academic policies and procedures including the evaluation of student transcripts and/or records.
- Knowledge and experience of a wide range of organizational theory and student development theory and their practical application in an educational setting, with specific experience related to developing and assessing the effectiveness of interventions that impact student academic success.
- Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures and backgrounds.
