CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Digital Communications Specialist manages CEHD’s digital strategy and implementation, including the content management system (WordPress) and social media profiles; oversees the day-to-day content optimization strategy for CEHD’s digital assets; and aligns CEHD unit digital assets to meet brand standards and overall communications goals.

The Digital Communications Specialist also develops unique, original content for a variety of communications platforms; repurposes content from a variety of internal and external sources for multi-platform distribution; and monitors digital traffic to ensure online content is reaching target audiences.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In collaboration with the Director of Communications, develop and maintain digital assets that support strategic communication goals.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement all electronic outreach efforts, including CEHD’s website, social media channels, e-newsletters and digital versions of printed materials.
  • Manage college’s eNewsletter account, distribution lists and related metrics; create and distribute electronic newsletters, communicating key messages to internal and external audiences.
  • Research SEO and best practices for web and social media, effectively integrating keywords and hashtags into content strategies. Track and report analytics, demonstrating the effectiveness of ongoing campaigns.
  • Create and manage digital advertising, especially search engine marketing campaigns, including paid search. Track and report analytics, demonstrating the effectiveness of ongoing campaigns.
  • Collaborate with UD’s Office of Communications and Marketing, CEHD’s Office of Educational Technology and UD’s Office of Information Technology on technical aspects of development and maintenance of websites.
  • Work closely with CEHD departments to reimagine the design of existing websites using WordPress . Train supporting staff on how to optimize content and update digital media, building the capability to make further changes independently.
  • Be familiar with digital accessibility standards and implementation.
  • Produce compelling digital content for the CEHD website and social media channels by interviewing faculty, students and alumni, writing featured web content, capturing/editing still images and/or creating video and audio clips.
  • Implement and maintain a master content calendar for all digital properties, making use of amplification strategies and best practices to optimize content.
  • Manage CEHD’s social media channels. Create, schedule and publish content on Twitter and Facebook; develop social media ad campaigns; and provide oversight of CEHD departmental pages through Hootsuite. Maintain master list of CEHD social media accounts.
  • Provide photo and video support during events, maintain our digital media library and manage our media release policy as needed.
  • Adhere to University Brand Guides as well as policies and procedures governing communications, marketing, IT and digital efforts.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with four years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in visual arts, communications, marketing, education technology or journalism preferred.
  • Highly competent in WordPress and/or other content management systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of web design, including responsive design and web accessibility. Attention to detail and knowledge of best practices for digital design.
  • Experience managing a social media content calendar and well-versed in utilizing social media management tools. Paid social media experience a plus.
  • Experience writing for the web, adapting appropriate tones for different audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously and still meet deadlines.
  • Ability to convey enthusiasm for training/coaching others who exhibit a range of knowledge/skill levels.
  • Knowledge of Google optimization, Google Apps, Google Business and SEO best practices.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Adept at Adobe Photoshop/Bridge/Premier Pro or Final Cut Pro, Hootsuite and e-newsletter marketing platforms.
  • Able to adhere to University Brand Guides as well as policies and procedures governing IT/web efforts.
  • Experience working in higher education, social services agency or research organization preferred.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures and backgrounds.
