CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Center for Disabilities Studies (CDS) is the largest research and public service center in the College of Education and Human Development. It provides a leadership role in promoting the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of society. The Center accomplishes this through education, service, information dissemination and research.

Under general supervision from the Program Manager, the Assistant Program Manager will develop and oversee multiple facets of Spectrum Scholars, a college program for students on the autism spectrum. This includes development and management of a comprehensive, evidence-based student coaching program. The Assistant Program Manager will provide direct support to students through weekly individual and/or group coaching sessions, as well as coordinate supports for a wide range of campus constituents, including students, staff, and faculty. The Assistant Program Manager will also supervise and oversee training and development of coaching staff across programs. The Assistant Program Manager will also support the Program Manager in leading several other areas of the Spectrum Scholars program. The Assistant Program Manager will also design and direct all aspects of summer pre-college programming including program development, budget, marketing, supervision of staff, and design of curricular materials. The Assistant Program Manager will also design and disseminate resources related to associated programs, support research conducted across programs, and will participate in dissemination activities including presentation at national conferences and co-authoring publications. The Assistant Program Manager will also provide academic advising for a group of students in the Disability Studies Minor. This is an independent position that requires interaction and collaboration with fellow program staff, students with disabilities, family members, faculty and other staff at UD, and high school/state agency staff.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, oversee, and model implementation of a comprehensive, evidence-based system of coaching supports for Spectrum Scholars
  • Assist Program Manager in day-to-day management of Spectrum Scholars, including but not limited to: staff training, peer mentoring and ambassador functions; program recruitment, marketing, collaboration with campus partners; recordkeeping of important programmatic information; development of resources for campus entities, development of programmatic policies and procedures, and more
  • Develop, deliver and supervise implementation of program policies, processes and resources for supporting students’ experiences in undergraduate courses.
  • Supervise and/or deliver undergraduate coursework designed to support students with disabilities.
  • Serve as the lead contact between participating students and the Office of Disability Support Services, as well as other relevant university resource offices.
  • Hire, train and supervise miscellaneous wage, graduate and undergraduate staff, and professional staff.
  • Counsel student participants and families on all facets of postsecondary education planning and placement so that students will have clear understandings of available paths.
  • Collaborate with UD faculty, CTAL and other staff working with participating students through direct communication and dissemination of resources or training opportunities, such as those related to Universal Design for Learning.
  • Oversee all aspects of development and execution of summer pre-college programming for high school students with autism and other disabilities, including budget, marketing, program development, staff supervision and collaboration with funding agency.
  • Serve as the day-to-day contact for assigned projects with internal and external parties.
  • Establish, oversee and maintain a system for tracking student and program progress.
  • In collaboration with the Research Manager, design, perform, and oversee data collection and assist with other research-related activities, including conference presentations and publications
  • Conduct academic advising for an identified group of undergraduate students in the Disability Studies Minor.
  • Perform most assignments independently with instructions as to the general results expected.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures manuals for respective elements of assigned projects.
  • Develop program summaries, grant proposals and other contracts related to the conduct of future postsecondary education projects.
  • Participate in center-wide activities with CDS, including submission of project-specific data to the NIRS database.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred, in rehabilitation, counseling, social work, education, human development, psychology or other related human services discipline with four years of documented experience working with high school and/or college students with disabilities, particularly autism, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, problem solving skills, high energy, and effective time management working within structured timelines.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to develop and maintain confidential files and records.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures and backgrounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work evening and weekends as needed and to work within a flexible schedule.
