The University of Delaware Center for Experimental & Applied Economics (CEAE) was established as a Center at UD in 2014. Since then, it has grown and continues to grow rapidly to become the largest social science research group on campus. CEAE research team involves 15-30 members (depending on the semester) who are faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students. undergraduate students, volunteers, and other collaborators. CEAE has an annual operating budget of approximately $1 million. CEAE mission is to: ''Nurture a community engaged in innovative, evidence-based research and dissemination of results to inform policy and promote sustainability at the nexus of agriculture and the environment."

Under the general direction of the Director of CEAE, the Research Manager supports research on experimental & applied economics focusing on agri-environmental issues, perception of risk, and other related topics. The Research Manager works closely with other Center personnel and may be required to manage multiple projects. In particular, the Research Manager provides expertise for the research and outreach development for the Center for Experimental & Applied Economics and Center for Behavioral and Experimental Agri-Environmental Research (CBEAR), that is co-headquartered at the University of Delaware and is a USDA Center of Excellence.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide vision, develop long term objectives, and contribute to the strategic planning and budgeting for the Center.
  • Exercises a high degree of creativity, foresight, and judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding activities of importance.
  • In collaboration with the PIs, develop competitive proposal in support of securing funding for projects; ensure accurate completion and approval of the proposal package to the sponsor.
  • Coordinate and oversee operational activities in CEAE and CBEAR with associated faculty, postdoctoral researchers, graduate/undergraduate students, and other associated researchers.
  • Coordinate CEAE and CBEAR public relations efforts including relations with local and state government, outreach to media outlets, communication through social media, and management of the website for the CEAE and related programs.
  • Serve as the liaison to the office of the Chair of the Department of Applied Economics & Statistics and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources regarding matters of finances, payroll, and grant administration.
  • Prepare reports to funders summarizing key outcomes.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards for Center operations to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality control of the activities of CEAE and to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and standards.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor degree in environmental studies, science, and/or economics and preferably at least four years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with grant writing and budget development.
  • Experience with grant management, administration, and report writing.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • General familiarity with the relevant documents related to allowable and unallowable costs for various federal, state, and university funds is desired.
  • Ability to use advance techniques in spreadsheet and database management.
  • Query writing and report generations using a variety of data sources desired.
  • Ability to analyze budgetary expenditures for compliance with approved policies and procedures.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Docs/Drive, and social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with UD systems, policies and procedures is a plus.

Special Requirements:

  • Obtain certification to conduct research involving human subjects by the Institutional Review Board within 30 days of employment.
  • Must complete required training sponsored by the University Research Office within one year of assignment in a contract and grants administration position.
