The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures seeks a candidate for the position of Continuing Track Instructor or Assistant Professor of Spanish. The Instructor rank candidate must have an M.A. in Spanish or related field in hand by August 1, 2025. The Assistant Professor rank (preferred) candidate must hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Spanish or related field by August 1, 2025. Candidates should have native or near-native fluency in both English and Spanish, a record of excellence in teaching with a minimum of two academic years of college-level teaching experience in Spanish as the instructor of record, and familiarity with communicative language instruction. The new hire will teach all levels of Spanish and demonstrate an interest in teaching and/or developing Spanish for Special Purposes, Translation, or Interpretation courses. An interest in directing study abroad programs and/or developing U.S. and international internships is desirable. Experience with course coordination and teaching online, flipped, and/or hybrid formats is preferred. The candidate should be able to work with students with diverse learning styles and backgrounds and demonstrate an interest in mentoring students. The successful candidate will provide outstanding instruction in introductory and intermediate-level mathematics, especially calculus courses, and will engage in coordination of large multi-section courses in calculus and other introductory mathematics. Curriculum development and mentoring of less experienced instructors, including teaching assistants, will also be expected. The anticipated workload is devoted primarily to teaching (typically 3 courses per semester), with the remainder devoted to service and scholarship. The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach and mentor undergraduate students in Cognitive Science and Speech-Language Pathology, and to participate in departmental and university-wide service.
