CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
The Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD) is a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive student learning and psychological wellbeing program providing a diverse array of services so that students can be more successful in their academic, personal, and career pursuits. The CCSD is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc. (IACS) and sponsors three levels of doctoral training for psychologists including an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited doctoral internship in health psychology. The Center’s efforts focus on helping students reduce psychological symptoms, cope with complicated life events and developmental tasks, improve interpersonal skills and relationships, and increase self-knowledge and problem-solving ability. CCSD is part of the Wellbeing Portfolio within the Division of Student Life (SL), whose mission is to advance equity and inclusion, deepen student learning and drive holistic development through education, experiences and communities.


Under the direction of the Associate Director of Clinical Services, the Senior Psychologist is an expert clinician invested in the success of the Center’s mission to meet the mental health needs of our student population. The Senior Psychologist demonstrate commitment to and alignment with the vision and values of the Center for Counseling and Student Development which is in alignment with the Wellbeing Portfolio, the Division of Student Life, and the University. This position also demonstrates impeccable professionalism in team and clinical encounters. The Senior Psychologist is expected to foster healthy team dynamics in alignment with CCSD and SL leadership and to be a professional role model for early career staff and trainees. The Senior Psychologist is expected to uphold high quality of care and maintain a student-centered focus, demonstrating commitment to the center and to Student Life through active participation in center and division functioning and initiatives as directed. The Senior Psychologist is relied upon to be flexible and responsive to the needs of the center as assigned.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Professionalism and Alignment

  • Serve as an approachable resource for faculty, staff, students, families, and community partners.
  • Model professionalism in staff and clinical interactions, foster healthy team dynamics, demonstrate alignment with the CCSD leadership team, and uphold the vision, values, and goals of the center. Serve as peer mentor as assigned.
  • Take a proactive role in departmental operations and functions as assigned and in alignment with center goals. Demonstrate flexibility in pivoting to respond to center needs.
  • Lead and/or serve on committees and workgroups.

Clinical Services

  • Provide effective, high quality, evidence-based individual psychotherapy, group counseling and assessment.
  • Maintain case load as assigned.
  • Model high quality, evidence-based care to the larger staff.
  • Manage the most complex cases within the system.
  • Demonstrate consistently optimal clinical outcomes in clinical work and foster improved clinical outcomes for the center through research (as assigned), professional development (developing/leading and/or participating), consultation, and mentorship.
  • Assess, evaluate, and diagnose a wide range of psychological disorders and personal, educational, and career development problems in undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Formulate case conceptualizations and develop, execute, monitor, and modify treatment plans that reflect evidence-based interventions that can be accomplished in a short-term model.
  • On a rotating basis, respond to the full complement of campus-wide weekday, evening and weekend crisis situations including those that are life threatening as the designated University authority for the handling of mental health crisis situations in the University community. Senior Psychologists are likely to be called on to respond to these situations with more frequency than other staff. Proactively assist other clinicians in addressing crisis situations as needed.
  • Provide in-house clinical consultation to CCSD staff and trainees as needed for treatment-related or emergency mental health/hospitalization situations.
  • Maintain timely legally and ethically sound documentation and electronic medical record practices.

Trainng

  • Proactively provide support for and orientation of trainees to CCSD such as orientation, training seminars, consultation, and evaluation of applications among other duties.
  • Supervise the counseling and clinical work of graduate students-in-training. This will include supervising trainees at all levels depending on the needs of the center (e.g., externship, internship, post-doctoral/pre-licensed trainees) in alignment with CCSD mission and Training program goals as assigned. When needed, the Senior Psychologist will provide supervision to more than one individual concurrently. Assignments may only be refused for extenuating circumstances when approved by the CCSD leadership team.
  • Supervise the counseling and clinical work of post-doctoral staff members who are working towards Delaware licensure in alignment with CCSD mission as assigned. Assignments may only be refused for extenuating circumstances when approved by the CCSD leadership team.
  • Maintain timely supervision records in accordance with legal, ethical, and CCSD standards.

Consultation and Liaison

  • Connect and liaise with campus colleagues and student organizations developing relationships and programming to engage and improve students’ experiences on campus as directed and in alignment with center goals.
  • Provide consultation to students, professionals, faculty, and administrators for issues which have psychological dimensions as directed and in accordance with center goals. Proactively assist other clinicians in addressing unfamiliar consultations as needed.

Outreach Programming

  • Assume a proactive role in developing and delivering outreach programming to others on campus. In alignment with CCSD and SL goals, initiate, develop, and provide student programs designed to enhance the intellectual, social, and personal growth of university students. Proactively assist other clinicians in developing outreach as assigned. Maintain outreach case load as assigned.
  • Provide after hours and weekend coverage at times for performance of outreach and consultation programs and services.
    Competency
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations such as State of Delaware Child Abuse Reporting laws, FERPA, Title IX, and Clery Act.
  • Maintain professional licensure and professional competence through appropriate continuing education opportunities.
    Other
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Perform special projects in a timely manner as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology is required, preferably from an academic department accredited by the American Psychological Association.
  • Completion of an internship in a college or university counseling center, preferably from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association, is strongly preferred.
  • Seven years postdoctoral experience providing direct clinical services (i.e., individual and group counseling, outreach and consultation) is required.
  • A licensed Psychologist in the state of Delaware (or license eligible in Delaware) is required.
  • Experience working in a college counseling center, preferably a center with a training program is preferred.
  • Ability to lead and/or serve on committees and workgroups.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of the development of emerging adults and counseling center administration; organizational and group dynamics, and/or student development issues and theory.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding cultural competency and diversity issues is essential and should be shown through graduate coursework, publications, presentations, and/or skill in expressing such knowledge in person in an interview setting.
  • Understanding of FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act, and trends in legal liability within college counseling center operations.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records, computer skills (e.g., Titanium, Point and Click, Excel, word processing, presentation software), and web navigation abilities.
  • Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

• Flexible work schedule required. Position may require early mornings, evening, and weekend hours.
