CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Office of Admissions at the University of Delaware receives more than 40,000 first year and transfer student applications per year, hosts on-campus and off-campus recruitment events and maintains a prospect list of nearly one million students nationwide and throughout the world. Under the direction of the Communications Manager, the Communications Specialist I will manage the development of communications collateral for prospective students and manage the deployment of all communications.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Articulates pipeline-specific communication for students as early as middle school.
  • Interacts with various departments to interpret and translate their expressed needs and ideas into effective visual forms tailored to the needs of intended audiences.
  • Assists with the execution of the visual design and branding strategy.
  • Ensures proofs are accurate and adhere to appropriate production standards; recommends improvements as identified.
  • Takes projects from concept to final execution, presenting visual plans and strategies to stakeholders throughout the process.
  • Coordinates closely with OCM in the planning and execution of projects such as video, the University tour, and new initiatives.
  • Adheres to University Brand Guides and policies and procedures governing communications and marketing efforts.
  • Actively participates in meetings, admissions, and transfer strategy meetings.
  • Manages project tasks as needed for student team.
  • Guides students through creative workflow while maintaining strategic goals, brand identity, and best practices of the division and University.
  • Supervises EGG multimedia student intern team.
  • Partners with and supports the work and mission of the Division of Student Life through committees, task forces, and special assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Art and Design, Visual Communications, Graphic Design, Multimedia or related field and three years of job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in the basic design tools, including mastery of Adobe Creative Suite.  Deep understanding of emerging design trends and technology platforms that support digital marketing and user experiences, as well as creating print marketing.
  • Ability to think conceptually and articulate ideas well, develop ideas on a given topic or situation, and develop creative ways to solve a problem.
  • Experience working in Admissions preferred
  • Excellent project management skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to execute and distribute projects as part of a predefined marketing plan and communications strategy to a creative team and oversee those projects completion. 
  • Outstanding oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of Slate or other CRM tools
  • Proven ability to work equally well independently and with project teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities; organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
