The Department of Human Development and Family Sciences in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at the University of Delaware seeks an exceptional evaluation researcher at any rank (tenure-track), with a strong scholarly record in the field of evaluation (ie. program, intervention, and/or policy evaluation). The applicant should possess or have the demonstrated potential for a strong publication record, external funding, experience working in collaborative teams, and commitment to excellence in teaching and mentorship at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Further, the ideal candidate will have an equity-focused agenda.
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. or equivalent in evaluation, human development and family sciences, education, public health, sociology, psychology, or related field by the start date, with demonstrated knowledge of evaluation research methods, theory and the use of evaluative methods in real world settings.
- Familiarity with evaluation approaches which may include: cost-benefit analysis, implementation evaluation, process and outcome measurement, survey design, qualitative approaches to data collection and analysis, participatory action research, community based participatory research, logic model development and measurement alignment, culturally sensitive approaches to evaluation and measurement, community engagement and diverse approaches to disseminating findings.
- Demonstrated skill conducting analyses aligned with evaluation approaches described in the previous bullet. Experience with both quantitative and qualitative analysis approaches preferred.
- We are particularly interested in applicants who are prepared to collaborate with our faculty in the areas of social determinants of health, human services, and/or early care and education.
- The ideal candidate will also have a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; a social justice perspective; an interest in working in an interdisciplinary academic environment; and a strong scholarly record.

CEHD is a vibrant, dynamic college, home to the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences and the School of Education. CEHD employs approximately 60 tenure track faculty who educate over 1500 undergraduates and 350 graduate students, and has more than $21.5M in external research funds from major funding organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, Administration for Children and Families, Institute for Education Sciences, and the National Science Foundation. CEHD has twelve research and public service centers working at the intersection of research and practice in areas such as teacher professional development, early care and education, and services for individuals with disabilities.
The Department of Human Development and Family Sciences is an innovative, interdisciplinary department that focuses on the study of critical social issues affecting individuals, families, and communities, along with poverty and at-risk families, as well as teacher education in early childhood. Housed in HDFS, the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood conducts research and outreach statewide providing a unique opportunity to study policy and practice implementation at scale. The Department is affiliated with numerous policy and practice-focused early childhood centers that provide a context for data collection, data analysis, and the mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, including New Directions Early Head Start, the Laboratory Preschool, and the Early Learning Center. Other relevant centers in the Department or College include the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities and the Center for Disabilities Studies.
College faculty conduct cutting-edge research designed to improve child, adult and family outcomes in health, social services, early care, and education, where our work spans mathematics education, language and literacy, the science of learning, sociocultural approaches, developing statistical and analytic methods, and educational policy.
Cross-disciplinary research and evaluation are strong across the college and university. Three organizations in particular add to the strengths of UD’s cross-disciplinary work: (1) the Center for Research in Education and Social Policy (CRESP), whose mission is to conduct rigorous research, program evaluation, and policy analysis to inform decisions at the local, state, and federal levels, (2) the Data Science Institute (DSI), a cross-campus initiative from all seven colleges at UD, which aims to accelerate interdisciplinary research in data science by offering interdisciplinary training in cutting-edge exploratory techniques such as video image analysis, and (3) UD’s Partnership for Public Education (PPE) which embodies UD’s commitment to applying research to practice and policy. Also contributing to our work is UD’s Center for the Study of Diversity, which promotes academic research and scholarship that facilitates dialogues about and understanding of the social and academic impact of diversity.
