Post Doctoral Research
Topic: Smart Inverter+Battery Testing, Control and Cyber Response
The Institute of Energy Conversion at the University of Delaware is looking for a postdoc to work on a DOE-funded project to evaluate the response of smart inverters and batteries under normal and abnormal control and communication inputs. This exciting project has 5 other teams including utilities, universities and small companies. The goal will be to provide descriptions of the operation and behavior of hybrid inverter+battery systems to others who are building models of the distribution grid for ‘faster than real-time predictions of grid stability and operation. You will be creating and operating a new hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing facility
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be expected to conduct full-time research in the following tasks: 1) Design the control signal and data paths compatible with inverters, batteries, and computer software. 2) Install hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing equipment. 3) Design HIL Lab experiments and create a communication plan. 4) Perform HIL testing of inverter and battery response under normal and under abnormal conditions. 5) Summarize and integrate data from HIL inverter and battery control experiments. 6) Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and publications. And 7) Assist in other projects at the Institute of Energy Conversion as needed.
